Congratulations to the 2013 Youth Philanthropy Contest Winners!

Getting a Head Start – Montessori fourth-grade students. The students at Montessori are going to create literacy boxes for the Norfolk Public Schools’ preschoolers to use during the summer to help them maintain and increase their skills, and to help them be prepared for school in the fall. Cuddles from Kids – Jefferson Elementary students. Students at Jefferson are going to create tie blankets to be distributed to children and the elderly in the community. Mentor Organization: Norfolk Morning Kiwanis Club

Bags of Hope – Junior Optimist Octagon International (JOOI) Club. JOOI aims to bring supplies to children who have little to call their own. Mentor Organization: CASA of Northeast Nebraska

Card Holders for Area Nursing Homes – Cole Jacobsen. Cole will make 100 wooden card holders for the elderly so they can enjoy playing cards with others. Mentor Organization: Norfolk Noon Kiwanis Club

Abuse No More – Sarah Knight, Treslyn Hubbard, Abby Robinson and Janece Paulson. The organization aims to help abused children cope. It will also help children express themselves through sports, music, poetry, art and so on. Mentor Organization: Norfolk Morning Optimists Club

Donate Your Birthday – Geena Piper. Geena will provide a gifting opportunity for kids and adults. In lieu of birthday gifts for themselves, people will donate to Bright Horizons of Northeast Nebraska. Mentor Organization: Bright Horizons

The Beauty of Your Presence – Youth Philanthropy Contest Missionary group. The missionary group will go to The Meadows and spend time with the residents while painting their nails and fixing their hair.

Children’s Health Education Carnival – The Northeast Community College Student Nursing Association. The Children’s Health Education Carnival will educate children and parents on important issues related to the child’s health, safety and overall wellbeing.   The event will also impact the Norfolk Rescue Mission by having children and families donate toys, clothing or financial gifts. Projects That Received Community Funding

Warmth for the Hearts – Brogan Anderson & Bailey Attema. Provide comfort and security for kids at the Wesley Center Crisis Nursery.  Funded by Bob & Amy Goeke & Courtney Goetsch & Lonnie Grothe.

Norfolk City Council for Kids – John Canham. Help interest kids in city, county and state government.

Rescue Mission Youth Outreach – Ana Cortes. Support the youth and their parents at  the Rescue Mission as they reconnect and strengthen their relationships.  Funded by Nucor Steel.

Ties of Love – Makenna Brown & Haley Storovich.  Show kids they are loved while keeping them warm with tie blankets.  Funded by the Norfolk Elks Lodge.

You Are Worth It – Alize Perry & Alaya Redwing. Create a healthy environment for junior high girls to have a voice. Funded by Nucor Steel.

The Walk Against Pressure Across Nebraska – Jordan Sager. Help give community members a voice through a walk on the Cowboy Trail. Funded by Affiliated Foods Midwest.

The Many Bags – Sydney Owen. Brighten the day of a child who is at the Wesley Center Crisis Nursery. Funded by Affiliated Foods Midwest.

Operation Pet Supply – Tyson Warrick. Provide much needed supplies to the Animal Shelter of Northeast Nebraska. Funded by Norfolk Iron and Metal.

Teddy Bear Giving Drive – Ashleigh Nelson. Help people in nursing homes know they are cared for and loved. Sponsored by MP Global.
